Abstract
Influenza A and B cause annual global epidemics, leading to millions of severe illnesses and hundreds of thousands of deaths. In Hong Kong, there are typically winter and summer influenza seasons, with the 2024/25 winter season seeing 498 severe cases and 332 deaths, mostly among adults aged 65 and above.
This presentation by Dr Daniel Chu highlights the efficacy and safety of influenza vaccines and WHO vaccination recommendations. Subunit vaccines are emphasized for their similar immunogenicity to split vaccines but with lower reactogenicity, especially regarding local and systemic reactions.
