Abstract
Addressing Hong Kong’s escalating cognitive decline burden—where 73.7% of adults aged 60 and above exhibit cognitive impairment and 480,000 live with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI)—demands a proactive paradigm shift in primary care practice. This lecture explores how high-precision blood-based biomarkers, specifically plasma pTau-217, now enable early biological identification of Alzheimer’s pathology in routine primary care settings.
Targeting synaptic membrane loss as the principal driver of early cognitive decline, the presentation evaluates the therapeutic mechanism and clinical trial data for Fortasyn Connect. By engaging the Kennedy and PEMT pathways, this daily multi-nutrient formulation supports structural neuronal repair. Results from the landmark LipiDiDiet RCT demonstrate a 76% reduction in memory decline and up to 10.5 months of preserved functional independence. Comparative analysis reveals that Fortasyn Connect matches the clinical effect sizes of standard cholinesterase inhibitors (d = 0.20) without drug toxicity or side-effect burden.
